About Course
Aims of the Module:
- Explore the concept of gender identity as a human right
- Examine the intersectional vulnerability of diverse gender groups in new media and related threats to privacy
- Critically assess the legal framework pertaining to gender rights in Sri Lanka
- Examine the concept of gender beyond the binary discourse
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this module, you should be able to:
- Discuss technology-based sexual and gender violence and why some people feel unsafe in comparison to others
- Discuss intersectional vulnerability
- Outline what constitutes digital safety and identify it as a human right
- Discuss the gaps in the law available for Cyber exploitation and Cyber Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Sri Lanka
- Discuss gender stereotypes in new media
- Discuss the relationship between gender and privacy in new media
- Identify threats to privacy in light of gender
- Discuss strategies to improve access, inclusivity and vulnerability
- Describe and differentiate the definitional concepts of gender, sex and sexuality beyond the binary discourse
- Use Pronouns and understand how to become an Ally
