Government to Enhance Educational Facilities for Children with Special Needs

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced that every school in the country will be equipped with necessary facilities to ensure that children with special needs receive education on par with other students.

As an initial step, one school in each educational administrative zone will be upgraded to accommodate children with special needs, with plans to gradually extend these facilities to all schools in multiple phases.

Dr. Amarasuriya further emphasized that the Ministry of Education will prioritize higher education opportunities for children with special needs, ensuring their academic and professional growth.

These remarks were made during a Parliamentary meeting held yesterday with representatives advocating for better education for the differently-abled community.

During the meeting, the representatives presented a proposal outlining measures to support individuals with special needs, incorporating local and international standards.

This initiative marks a significant step toward inclusive education and equal opportunities for all students.
