The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is currently affecting Sri Lanka’s weather conditions, according to the Department of Meteorology. Today (27), many parts of the island may experience showers or thundershowers during the evening or night. Several spells of rain can be expected in the morning as well, particularly in the Western Province and in Puttalam, Mannar, Jaffna, Galle, and Matara districts. Heavy rainfall of about 100mm is likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Eastern, and North-Central Provinces, as well as in the Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Kurunegala districts. The Department urges the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Additionally, misty conditions can be expected in some areas of the Central and Uva Provinces during the morning.
