The Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) has issued a statement regarding the death of Charith Dilshan, a 23-year-old second-year student of the Faculty of Technology at the Sabaragamuwa University. The IUSF expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized the need for a full, unbiased investigation.
As there are allegations suggesting that the death was the result of ragging, the IUSF demands that authorities conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry, and if found guilty, those responsible must face legal consequences. The IUSF also stated its full cooperation for any such investigation.
They further asserted that practices like ragging have no place in the student movement and that such incidents are often used by the government to push narratives in favor of privatizing education. Therefore, the IUSF urged all university students to stand against regressive cultural remnants within university spaces.
