Japan to Invest in Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation and Port Development

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Akio Isomata, this morning (27th) at the Presidential Secretariat to discuss bilateral cooperation and economic investments.

During the meeting, Ambassador Isomata officially invited President Dissanayake to visit Japan and expressed appreciation for the new government’s policy framework. He also highlighted Japan’s efforts to include Sri Lanka in its recently launched security cooperation assistance program.

The two sides held extensive discussions on the Japan-Switzerland-South Africa joint program aimed at fostering national reconciliation in northern communities affected by the 30-year conflict. They also reviewed current and future Japanese investments in Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Isomata reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation Program, with plans to invest in port and aviation-related projects, as well as digitalization initiatives.

Additionally, discussions focused on the progress of digital economic and airport investments, strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa (Advisor to the President on Economic and Financial Affairs), Roshan Gamage (Senior Additional Secretary to the President), Ohashi Kenji (First Secretary & Head of Economics and Development Cooperation Section), and Murata Shinichi (First Secretary & Head of Political Section).
