Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has reiterated the government’s strong commitment to enhancing Sri Lanka’s education sector. Speaking at Jaffna Hindu College on Saturday (15), she emphasized the urgent need to prioritize education and implement substantial reforms.
“As a government, we are very focused on education,” she stated. “We must ensure that education remains a priority in our society and invest in quality learning opportunities. This is our commitment.”
Highlighting the shortcomings of the current system, she pointed out that the rise of the tuition industry is a direct result of its failures. “If we want to reduce reliance on tuition, we must ensure that every child has access to a high-quality education within the school system itself,” she stressed.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government’s determination to prevent school dropouts and provide equal opportunities for all children. “Our vision is for every child, not just those at Jaffna Hindu College, but across the country, to benefit from a strong education system.”
She further outlined her aspirations for Sri Lanka’s youth, stating, “Through education, we aim to nurture ethical, socially responsible citizens who will become future leaders of this nation.”
