The Department of Meteorology warns that several parts of the country are likely to experience showers and thunderstorms today (May 14).
Showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, and the Galle and Matara districts, with some areas likely to receive over 50mm of rain.
In the Central, Uva, North-Central, and Eastern provinces, isolated showers or thundershowers may occur after 1:00 PM.
Additionally, strong winds of around 30–40 km/h are expected from time to time in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces, as well as the Trincomalee district.
The public is urged to take precautions against lightning and temporary strong winds during thunderstorms.
