Showers Expected in Several Areas Today – Department of Meteorology

The Department of Meteorology says that several areas of the island will experience rainfall today (June 26).

Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces and in the Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy rainfall of about 50mm is likely in some places.

A few showers may also occur in the Anuradhapura and Matale districts.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur in isolated areas of the Uva and Eastern provinces during the afternoon or night.

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
