Sri Lanka and France Sign Key Debt Restructuring Agreement

Colombo, June 16 – Sri Lanka and France have signed a bilateral agreement as part of Sri Lanka’s external debt restructuring efforts, marking a significant step toward stabilizing the country’s economy, the Ministry of Finance announced.

The official signing ceremony took place in Colombo, with Finance Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana representing the Sri Lankan government and William Roos, Assistant Secretary of the French Treasury, signing on behalf of France.

The agreement highlights Sri Lanka’s commitment to restore debt sustainability and revitalize its economy through comprehensive reforms. France has played a crucial role in the debt restructuring process, co-chairing Sri Lanka’s Official Creditor Committee alongside Japan and India.

The Finance Ministry praised the leadership and constructive support of the French government, noting that the spirit of cooperation has been vital in making tangible progress on economic recovery.

The conclusion of the agreement is also expected to strengthen long-standing bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and France.
