Sri Lankans Can Travel to and from Israel via Egypt and Jordan – Ambassador

Jerusalem, June 14 – Amid the ongoing closure of Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv due to escalating tensions with Iran, Sri Lankans seeking to travel to or from Israel have been advised to use alternative routes through Jordan and Egypt, according to Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara.

The Ambassador confirmed that short-term visas can be obtained from the respective authorities in Jordan and Egypt, enabling Sri Lankans to enter Israel via land border crossings, including those near the southern Israeli city of Eilat.

During a recent briefing with ambassadors and diplomats in Israel, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said that no specific date could yet be given for the reopening of Ben Gurion Airport, which remains closed to international flights due to security concerns.

However, he assured that individuals with urgent travel needs can still enter or exit Israel through the Amman Airport in Jordan or Cairo Airport in Egypt.

The announcement comes as tensions escalate between Israel and Iran, with ongoing missile exchanges and regional uncertainty.

Sri Lankan nationals in Israel are encouraged to remain in contact with the Sri Lankan Embassy for travel assistance and safety updates.
