Supplementary Medical Professionals to Launch Islandwide Strike Today

The Joint Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine (JCPSM) has announced an islandwide strike today (June 5), citing unresolved issues with the Ministry of Health.

According to JCPSM General Secretary Chanaka Dharmawickrama, the strike will begin at 8:00 a.m. and involve professionals across five key sectors, including medical laboratory services and pharmacy services.

However, the Cancer Hospital, maternity and children’s hospitals, kidney hospitals, and the Central Blood Bank (CBB) will remain unaffected by the strike.

The union says the strike was prompted by long-standing concerns over promotions and administrative matters that have not been addressed, severely impacting healthcare workers and patients.
