Task Force Appointed to Curb Dengue and Chikungunya in Western Province

 The Ministry of Health of the Western Provincial Council has appointed a special task force to control the rising spread of Dengue and Chikungunya cases. Secretary to the Ministry, L. A. Kalukapuarachchi, revealed that more than 50% of all Dengue cases reported nationwide have originated from the Western Province.

According to the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), a total of 17,000 Dengue cases have been reported across the island so far this year. Of these, 1,800 cases have been reported within the Colombo Municipal Council area alone, stated Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Geethika Ratnawardena.

Dr. Ratnawardena also mentioned that around 70,000 households identified as high-risk have been inspected, and legal action has been taken against 471 of them.
