The All Ceylon United Teachers’ Union has warned it will initiate trade union action if salaries for national school teachers are not paid by 12 noon today (June 23).
Union President Venerable Yalwela Pannasekara Thero stated that although teachers’ salaries are typically credited by the 20th of each month, June payments have still not been received.
Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) General Secretary Joseph Stalin also voiced concern, highlighting that similar delays occurred last month.
He said, “The relevant banks have not received the necessary instructions to process salary payments this month. The Zonal Education Offices, which usually handle disbursements, have also not been informed.”
Stalin emphasized the need for a proper investigation, stating that thousands of teachers across the country are still awaiting their salaries.
