Train Services Limited Due to Station Masters’ Strike

Sri Lanka Railways has suspended all long-distance train services today (May 17), restricting operations to short-distance routes such as Galle, Negombo, and Veyangoda, according to General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara. The move comes in response to a 24-hour token strike launched by railway station masters at midnight on May 16, over unresolved demands. Union Chairman Sumedha Somaratne warned that a continuous strike could follow if issues remain unaddressed. Last night, all night mail trains were canceled, with one train forced to return mid-journey. Police security was deployed in response to the disruption.
